Bourbon - BlendedStyle
Blended bourbon is at least 51% straight bourbon, mixed with other whiskey or neutral grain spirit. It is lighter and less expensive than straight bourbon.
The Rules
- At least 51% straight bourbon
- The rest can be other whiskey or neutral spirits
- Small amounts of colouring or flavouring are allowed in blends
On The Label
- The label says "Blended Bourbon Whiskey"
- Not the same as a blend of several straight bourbons, which is still straight bourbon
What To Expect
Lighter body and simpler flavour than straight bourbon; often used for mixing.
Why It Matters
"Blended" on an American label means neutral spirit may be in the bottle. Bourbons blended only from straight bourbons say "Straight Bourbon" instead.
