StraightTrait
A straight whiskey (bourbon, rye, wheat and others) has aged at least two years in new charred oak with nothing added but water. If it is under four years old, the label must state the age.
The Rules
- Aged at least two years in new charred oak
- Nothing added but water
- Under four years: age statement required
- A blend of straights from one state can still be called straight
On The Label
- "Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey" is the classic wording
- No age statement on a straight whiskey means it is at least four years old
Why It Matters
Straight is the quality floor for American whiskey; in WOW it is a Trait, so you can filter it on any style.
